Pink Lady® apples in conjunction with Tru-Cape hosts 6th annual craft workshop

95 Beautiful ladies used their creative flair and passion, in September, to help raise funds for the Tygerberg Hospital’s Breast Clinic Transport Fund.

Being diagnosed with Breast Cancer and plucking up the courage to fight the disease is one thing in itself but imagine not being able to go for your treatment because you do not have the funds to cover transportation to and from the clinic.

This is the reality for many women who are diagnosed with breast cancer at the Tygerberg Hospital’s Breast Clinic.

“From humble beginnings in 2010 with 25 ladies attending we now are thrilled to host as many as 95 ladies at our crafting morning. The continued support we have had from ladies throughout the Western Cape over the years has been phenomenal. Every year we are blown away by the enthusiasm and passion each and every lady shows for our event and the charity we support.” commented Liza Matthews (Pink Lady® Marketing Manager).

This year’s memorable day was held on Saturday 19 September at the beautiful D’Aria in Durbanville. An incredible R65 000 was raised for the Tygerberg Hospital’s Breast Clinic Transport Project. To help Pink Lady® raise even more funds for the cause we once again teamed up with Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, to co-sponsor the event.

This year at the Pink Lady® Crafts for Cancer Workshop the ladies enjoyed a morning learning the art of lino printing with the ever talented Lizel Cloete, Craft editor for Ideas magazine. After a relaxing morning being creative our guests indulged in a delicious lunch and listened to the sweet tunes of well-known musician, Rocco de Villiers.

Tickets cost R280 each and the full value of the ticket was donated to the Tygerberg Hospital’s Breast Clinic Transport Fund, with Pink Lady® and Tru-Cape sponsoring the cost of the event.

Liza Matthews, (Marketing Manager) for Pink Lady® said: “We chose this event, because although treatment costs are covered by Government, some patients cannot afford the transport costs to and from the hospital for regular radiotherapy sessions. This year our theme was
“Be-YOU-tiful”

“Tru-Cape is proud to be associated with Pink Lady® apples and to co-sponsor such an inspiring event. Our wish is to see more patients being able to live healthy, happy lives.” Added Aileen Zulch for Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing.

Prof. Justus Apffelstaedt, Head of the Breast Clinic, Tygerberg Hospital, will be giving a talk on Breast Cancer and Breast Health.

Prof. Justus Apffelstaedt said: “Many of our patients live on government grants with their families; these are only about R 1200 per month; transport to Tygerberg often costs R 150 for a single visit. The choice between having enough to eat for the family and transport for therapy is stark.”

A very special thank you to all those you continue to support our event and those who need help in their fight against breast cancer by attending the Pink Lady® Crafts for Cancer Workshop in the beautiful surroundings of D’Aria.

All Funds raised from the sale of tickets is donated to Tygerberg Hospital’s Breast Clinic Transport fund.
